I'm just home after visiting Berlin for the first time. It's an amazing city and I'm already looking into booking flights and heading back as soon as I can. It's definitely one of the coolest city's I've visited in terms of fashion, music, culture, night-life etc.. I could go on and for all you've that been you know exactly what I mean.

The vintage shopping there is pretty amazing and some of the best I've ever seen but strenuous at the same time, although I didn't get the chance to visit any of the flea markets I thought I'd do a quick-run through on vintage shopping there.

Berlin is a really poor city, so I wouldn't be expecting to find loads of vintage designer gear or anything. For all you that know, there is no city centre as such so all the shops are really, really far apart. It reminded a lot of being in Los Angeles and shopping there. I spent about a day and a half just vintage shopping, so if you like a good old rummage like myself be prepared to spend alot of time travelling to and from shops.

Two of the better of the bigger vintage shops I visited were Colours and Garage. Ranging at approximately 1000sq ft each you can only imagine how much gear was in there. They both had select pieces up the front and towards the back they were selling big quantity's of clothes for 15€ per kilo. I stuck to this section and managed to get my hands on quite a few nice pieces, however, like any big vintage shop I had to sift through copious amounts of crap and the bulk of the stock was from the 1980's and very repetitive, Parka's, zip-up's, check shirts etc...

The downside to these shops was that were almost too much selection and upon arrival it's almost daunting or overbearing There's going to be alot of stock you're not going to buy and I advise you to be on the ball and awake if you plan on shopping here and looking to nab a bargain, cause you'll easily want to give up as the stock becomes much of a muchness after a while and there's just so much of it.

Another shop I visited was Sing Blackbird, Sing! This came up as the number #1 vintage shop on any reviews I had looked but when I got there, I was so disappointed. The shop was tiny had very few clothes with very high price tags. I think the coffee shop at the front might attract more customers then the shop itself.

If you're looking to buy vintage shoes Calypso is certainly a place to go. It's a vintage shoe shop with an extensive range of mens and women's leather shoes and wasn't too pricey either. Across The road from there is one of the four Paul's Boutiques and this is certainly the better out of the four. Like Calypso, it has an extensive range of shoes but caters solely to vintage mens sneakers from the 1970's & 80's. The shop is great but really crowded and quite hard to rummage through as your squeezing between the stock trying to make your way about the shop.

Humana was another shop with two stores, one 1000sq ft and the other with more select pieces. In my opinion stick to the select one (around Mitte *I think*) it's still really reasonable and there's still heaps of stock to look through and a bargain to be found. I got a Lactose polo in there for about 9€.

There were so many other vintage shops I went to but after a while it's all really repetitive and most of them have the same stock or there abouts and you find yourself trawling through garment after garment not finding anything. I'd definitely suggest doing the bigger ones first and then working your way to the better more select boutiques.

The best shop I visited (and spent money in) was Made In Berlin. Now, you're not going to find a bargain in here as such, but all their pieces were select and of a way higher standard then some of the other vintage shops. It's more pricey but paying that bit extra will get far better quality and more of a 'one off piece' it also cuts out the middle man and they've found the gems for you.

There are two shops and I found the better one (for menswear) to be in Mitte. Going to one of these stores also saves you alot of time cause your bound to find something you'll love straight away as you dont have to dig around for it.
The girls section again had an extensive shoe selection and amazing gear but, I photographed some of the mens floor (below) and you can see how easy to find, colour co-ordinated and what a nice layout it is. Definitely one of the best vintage shops I've visited and a must do if you visit this city!

I'd been looking for a tie-dyed t-shirt the past while but couldn't seem to find one that I wanted. I was looking for one with more neutral colours as opposed to the really sharp bold coloured ones I've been seeing in town. So, I decided to give tie-dying a go. I hadn't done it since primary school- so it was a bit trial and error but, I'm happy with how these three turned out!

I've finally organised some location shoots (as I keep mentioning) and this time they're actually happening -thank fuck!

This Friday (27th January) also see's me celebrating the second year of my club night THE BEAT ROOM as part of the 'Once Upon a Time In The West Festival.

Here's a shoot we shot last year towards the end of summer. It got pushed back/lost among other reasons (these things happen) but anyways, here it is now and I hope you like it.

I guess this outfit has a very similar 'army' feel to it, like my previous outfit post here but, nether the less I like it all the same. I remember when I got the BOY sweater last February at how happy I was cause I'd saved up - after having wanted one for so long! It's great quality and really has lasted an enormous amount of wears. I bought the bag around the same time too from Beyond Retro (it's not vintage but one of there few in-house pieces). The quality isn't fantastic at all, as you can see it's pinned together at the top cause the button fell off and the straps underneath have ripped a bit too, after not having it that long at all, but I love it all the same.

Ciara was heading out to this Rocky Horror Picture Show night all dressed up so I handed her my disco ball that GIGANTIC gave to me as a present a month or so back and I shot these photo's. There was a whole bunch of them, but I couldn't crop them properly so here are the final two.
It's a shame cause the bottom half of her outfit was totally killer too. Oh well, I'm pretty happy with these two anyways even though they don't exactly have anything to do with christmas I thought to post them, because I guess the disco ball kinda reminds of decorations or something?!

Last photo taken by me from bedroom window a few weeks ago on a cold sunny day. I've wanted to put it up for a while but it didn't seem to fit anywhere so I just decided to share it anyways. It has me dreaming of summer holidays all over again...

These posters (below) are for two charity gigs I'm playing this Friday (25th Nov) and next Monday (28th Nov).
On Friday I'll be djing 40's, 50's & 60's (The Beat Room) music at the Vintage Frock & Crock charity event in aid of Barnardo's in Lynch's cafe. They'll be plenty of stalls and both vintage gear and vintage inspired gear up for sale. On the Monday I'm djing as Confetti with Fuz for the Movember party. Again, this is for another brilliant cause and the line up is great so do try come along if you're in the area and raise some money for charity. I've been awful bad at posting as of late. I had a week off college and decided to enjoy that week (even though I was djing most of it) rather than trapsing through the fashion world "trying to" catch up. I feel like I've been neglecting this blog/my fashion interest recently, as life seems to just get in the way a bit.

Damn! Oh well, I figured it's November and time to start pulling my socks up a bit, so I did an outfit post (sort of?) and try get back in the game a little...

One thing that did catch my eye recently was this shoot Charlie Le Mindu did for i-D magazine (above). I absolutely fell in love with the colours and concept. It's made me wanna start shooting all over again! Inspiration, inspiration! Yes, I need more of it!

I did do a quick shoot (sort of) recently for some college work, just examples of using a household materials as garments for a project. It was with my friend Emma and we just shot it in her bedroom. The concept and mood is pretty obvious, here's one of the photo's:

I've been meaning to mention that I'll now be a writing contributor to the music website BANDCRUNCH. I should be roughly writing about two pieces a week, whether it's on new or old music, or like my last piece my 'favorite hairstyles in music'. The site is linked to the right of my blog and I'm excited to get writing for them and be involved in a new project. My new, favorite piece of clothing in the world (above) is a vintage basketball jacket I got yesterday. The name Neal is embroidered on the chest and on the back it says 'Coventry Basketball'. I wonder what Neal is up to now...

Not forgetting; Halloween is creeping up slowly but surely and I still haven't a clue on what I'm going to dress up as this year. Below is part 2 to my halloween playlists. More spooky, halloween themed tunes for the lead up to the big night.

Also last night saw the 450th night of club Strange Brew take place in the Roisin Dubh. The line up was amazing, unfortunetly I didn't get to see all the bands I would of liked to but, fun was had and we got to dj for a little bit afterwards.

The past few weeks have been pretty hectic and I know I've neglected this blog a little but, they have also been pretty awesome and I wanted to wait for it to all be over before I got posting. I finally got a camera, which I'm so happy about (even though I haven't a clue how to use it) and hopefully this blog will be a little better now.

Last Friday Ciara and I attended the U-Magazine High Street Style Awards in Dublin. The night was great and all the right shops won. I won a Burt's Bee's gift set too! We stayed in an absolute dive of a hotel, it was literally a bed and a wall but, at twenty quid you cant really complain. We still managed to make enough space for getting ready.

Iwore a vintage blazer and vintage Yves Saint Lauren shirt, black skinny's and black desert boots that I got in an old man's shoe shop.

Ciara wore independent Irish label Harlow&Harvey which was also worn buy 'Best Dressed Lady' Lia Stokes.

There's so many more photo's that aren't suitable for uploading on here (copious ammounts of alcohol were drank afterwards) but, I'll leave you with the lovely crepes we ordered hungover the next morning.

Sunday was Fuz's birthday and we all went out and got mental, the majority of the photo's are on my computer (again not suitable for here).

Myself and Ciara also MC'd the Feline Fatale fashion show last Wednesday which was in aid of the Galway Cat Rescue.
The show showcased various, local designers and boutiques like Harlow&Harvey, Public Romance, Sinora, as well as bigger shops like Ted Baker etc.. We had a great time doing it and managed to raise loads of money for the charity, so it was a huge success.

Charlie Le Mindu SS/12

(Belated) I just don't have time to go through the entire fashion week of each city this year with college, djing and work even though I really really wish I could and write about them all *sigh*.

However, I have made the effort to check out one of my favourite designers latest collection, which was shown at Paris fashion week this year.

Charlie Le Mindu's SS/12 collection has blown me away. After last years gorey and almost gruesome AW/12 collection, this time we see his key elements prominent as always again; Religion, Sex, Trash etc.. but with the whole concept based around an Aladin/Arabian feel, which I loved. There were also elements of old hollywood glamour in the pieces, the shapes and some of the hair.

The colours are perfect. With midnight blues and blacks the garments have a beautiful shimmer to them and the chiffon and sheer gel perfectly. Using fake nails as a material on the clothes, we see where Le Mindu's love for trash or tacky comes across clearly and of course the burkas are another concept to the collection, them also being in the title: 'Burka Cufew'. There is a sense of empowerment to the women of the East throughout.

For me the favourite part of the collection would have to be the mens shoes. As always Le Mindu incorporates my favourite footwear; Creepers. At ankle length they are just, yes I'm going to say it: dreamy..

News!

So, myself and good compadré Wild Child Stories have been asked to MC this fashion show in aid of a great cause for the Galway Cat Rescue which will be held in The Galway Bay Hotel on Wednesday October the 19th from 8pm.

We have been involved in helping out with the show from the beginning as well as many of our friends and other locals, from styling the show to organizing photo shoots and so on . Everyone has put a lot of work into the event to make it successful and raise money/awareness for the charity as well as hoping to give everyone a good, fun night out.

The fashion show will concentrate mainly on showcasing and promoting locate designers, boutiques and vintage clothing. There will be stalls and rails also set up on the night with garments available for sale.

Harlow&Harvey and Cotton Face Vintage will be showcasing on the night among many more and Hair has been sponsored by Momento Hairdressers and Makeup by Julianne Hennelly at Makeup is ART and plenty more.

All or any support would be much apreciated if you're in the Galway area and are able to attend or donate at all.

October is my favourite month of the year and of course; like many, halloween is something I'm looking forward to. Below I've shared my halloween playlist to keep things spooky for the whole lead up to it. Plenty of 50's instrumentals and all things themed halloween.

I had intended on posting more about New York Fashion Week but, as soon as London Fashion Week came around I sort of got distracted (lost interest) because my favorite collections generally come out of LFW and they certainly did so this year. So many in fact that I'm narrowing it down to only three to write about.

Meadham & Kirchhoff 's SS/12 collection would probably have to be my favorite shown so far. The entire 'show' blew me away. I say 'show' because they literally went all out; dancers, balloons, a giant birthday cake, little ballerinas etc..
The whole performance reminded me of a little girls birthday party or dress-up box with the venue having streams of pastel/bubblegum colored balloons pour over the audience and runway, dancers coming in and dancing in the middle of the runway applying powder and lipstick as the models walked.

Again, the models were dressed in very bubblegum/pastel or bright colors, babydoll dresses etc...
The whole collection was very playful, bright and had elements of an inner-child to it with oversized platforms (like girls who wore there mothers dressing up), big hair/wigs, thigh-high socks, drawn-on moustaches, harajuku-girl vibes and a little Willy Wonka, but on another note we saw lots of kinder-whore elements which are recognizable to Courtney Love when she was in Hole.

The soundtrack included 'Wannabe' by The Spice Girls as well as Hole and the end of the show saw children ballerina's with pigtail-plaits dancing around and one on top of a giant birthday cake.

The whole thing was just fun and refreshing, humorous and magical. You can imagine every little girls fantasy or dreams in this collection, her imagination running wild... I didn't think they could possibly top their SS/11 collection last year but, they really have impressed and wowed.

House Of Holland was another collection that really surprised me this season, I wouldn't pay too much attention normally to their garments but a few pieces really stuck out to me this time.

Again, we see pastels are prominent here in this collection as well as a 90's feel and tartan which is always popular to House Of Holland.

The cloud print is my favorite element to the whole collection as it emulates Prince's cloud suit which he wore in the 'Raspberry Beret' video and it also reminds me of the jacket Claire Barrow did, which I posted about previously.

It's nice, simple but still very bold and bright.

Ziad Ghanem is slowly becoming one of my favorite fashion designers, his shows keep progressing and blowing me away.

With a clear macabre and carnival feel and constant inspiration taken from the 1940's it's hard not to like.
His choice of models are always unconventional, which I absolutely love and this time we see a young girl take the runway to a massiva round-of-applause.

The collection from what I gather is also inspired by a wedding as we watch both male and female (bride & groom) open the show with also a wedding soundtrack then, followed by variations of wedding dresses and attendees.

The latter part of the collection see's paint-splattered garments which are my favorite pieces from the set.

I'm slowly but surely working my way through the NYFW shows so far and seeing what I like. Jeremy Scott's collections always interest me. If I'm honest I wouldn't exactly invest in any of the mens pieces particulary, but as an entire collection I love it.

The collection is true to Scott; colourful, bold, camp and playful. I love that about his designs, it just adds a breath of lightness to fashion week and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to say, but humour too. It's alway entertaining and inspiring.

The 90's feel, cactus', denim dungarees and cowboy/cowgirl takes all remind me of my childhood and again as I mentioned the collection being very playful. I also love the Addidas take on the cowboy boot. The hair on some of the girls also reminds me loads of Penny Pingleton in John Waters 'Hairspray', which is another bonus!

There were definitely way more colours I've probably been as many as 10/20 in the past year in total, but I thought it'd be funny to post them up. These first & forever stories by Doc Martens have been popping up in all the magazines recently. I really, really love the idea. It's sort of a similar idea to my 'One Record Project', first time for everything's basically.

I wouldn't say I love Agyness Deyn, but I really love what she says in this and her accent works so well. The whole thing, the way it's shot, everything! It's so true to the brand and so British.

After a few months of coming up with the idea and trying to figure out how I could put it all together, I got my friends Yoseph and Fuz involved and alice was finally born.

ALICE is a collective; Radio, Club nights, DJ's, parties, events etc.. The boys and I were doing various nights, radio, bands etc around the city and we wanted to put it under one roof, or brand it as such.

Here's the synopsis that we wrote up on our facebook page:

Alice Collective is a collection of DJ's and musicians based in Galway city.

With a combined passion, knowledge and appreciation for all music, each member of the collective specializes in different genres aiming to bring all these together and create an environment that caters to all music lovers.

We also aim to showcase emerging talent be it local, national or international, DJ,s, bands, club nights, parties and happenings.

The collective consists of a weekly radio show from 8-10pm on rascal radio 95fm (www.rascalradio.net), various Dj slots and club nights.

Congratulations to one of my best friends and house mate Ciara for winning the 'legs 11 competition' and now being the ambassador for Pretty Polly.

I'm over the moon she won and couldn't think of a better to choice to represent the brand. Ciara's an

amazing churpy, out-going and friendly person with a warm heart and big smile and her positive attitude has the ability to rub off on anyone!

This competition will hopefully get Ciara exactly where she should be, working on something she loves and doing exciting and different things everyday.

I'm so proud of her, not just by this competition but, all the hard work she's put in, in just over a year when she decided to take a career path down this route after us messing around doing a shoot with her, myself and Yvonne in our kitchen!

Bound to be an amazing and outstanding documentary for all fans of the underground superstar; Divine. A documentary with John Waters seal of approval and insight into the real life of the popstar, actor, misfit and maniac. This is going to be an interesting story.

The team have managed to film the majority of interviews but need your help to pay for editing, music, archival footage etc.. The whole shoot was based on a grunge, 90's theme, shot in and around Dublin and this amazing record store R.A.G.E. (I wanted to buy everything) on Fade Street. So I headed up to Dublin early Thursday morning and met up with my good friend Yvonne as she asked me if I'd like to do hair on a shoot on Friday, so I decided to go up on the Thursday and we ended up taking a couple of casual shots of myself just in and around her area. The shoot the following day went really well too, was great to meet new people and just be on a shoot again, I cant wait to see the final shots!

The shots below were just casual, inspired by a mini-editorial we saw in this months i-D magazine which I think is called 'Stay cool, hang loose, admit nothing' taken by Mark Kean and Styled by Toby Grimditch. The shoot has a real work-mans vibe, very British and grainy. It reminds me alot of Northern miners in the 1980's or something?! If I had a scanner (money) I'd post some of the images here, but I dont unfortunately.

The styling is amazing and really, really to my taste. Blazers, plaid, knits, sheepskin, boots etc.. I tried to add some of those elements in the below shots.

I finally coloured my again and got it exactly how I wanted it, like I mentioned a post or two ago.
I've wanted to do this for a while now, after being inspired by the BLEACH salon in London.

All I did was basically water-down the blue hair dye with conditioner and left in for like 15/20 minutes, like a blue rinse and then wash-out. It looks more green in this photo though.

I've done a good few dip-dyes on friends now, but none of the pastels and I'm dying to do more as well as the rainbow and sunset looks. Hit me up!

If I'm honest it was the model and her barnett (the colour I want to go next) that first caught my attention when I was looking at these photo's but, then I started to look at the designs and found them charming.

Basic, feminine dresses that definitely have the ability to flatter almost any figue, with the nipped in waists and long skirts. The collection is dotted with prints of rockets, spaceships, planes, boats, florals and more!

Mexican designer Dámian Márquez. I came across this guy while looking for trousers on Asos and then went onto his site. I am in love with his classic, but modern designs and sharp tailoring. It's refreshing to find such an interesting designer that focus's on solely the male gender. The kilts and silver trunks are pushing it a bit for me but the floral shirts, pleated trousers and sweaters have totally won me over, (the last pair of trousers especially).

I posted about Claire Barrow a while back about her awesome painted leather jackets. I was just on her site there and noticed these customized Doc Martins she's hand painted too and drooled a bit. I think they're a one-off and she's also done something similar to a pair of Creepers, adding painted lime coloured rats to the edges. Even though these are awful similar to the Comme Des Garcon toe shoes circa 2009, I'm still in love with them and want a pair.

Charlie Le Mindu, designer and hairstylist has released these awesome t-shirts. I can't exactly say when as I've just stumbled on them after checking his site for updates, but I presume it's recent enough and my god do I want one.

They're typical to Le Mindu's fashion collections, combining sexuality, religious iconography and of course trash. The obvious comparison to his previous work is paramount in that these can actually be classed as suitable and affordable day-wear, as they're basic monochromes. As much a fan of his work as I am, it's nice to see this change and that these wont pinch the pocket too much at working out at roughly a reasonable 50 quid.

So before the summer (we're totally not having) draws to a close I decided to do a quick outfit post which goes along with my 'vacation playlists' (see previous posts) and my favourite two items over the past few months.

The outfit has obvious surfy-60's vibes I guess and the hazyness of the polaroid filter adds to this too which I like a lot, as well as having one of my favourite birthday presents in there.

The outfit pretty much sums up my summer; listening to mainly Best Coast, Tennis,The Beach Boys, Annette Funicello, surf music All summer long, wishing to go to the beach, being envious of Bethany Cosentino's tweets about Los Angeles and her life, wanting to be Bethany Cosentino and keeping my threads pretty casual and just waiting for the sunshine.

The sweater (actually the whole outfit) reminds me a lot of something one of the characters in 'The Big Bang Theory' would wear which makes me laugh.The shoes have an obvious mod/'Quadrophenia' reference and the T-shirt reminds me a lot of the American packaging I was talking about in previous posts too, the block colours, retro vibes and font which all relates to another summer obsession of mine, buying American fizzy drinks from the 'Candyland' shop.

I came across this guy Mr. Ray while browsing online. He was a hairdresser in the 1950's/60's that I think was one of the pioneer for setting patterns for rollers & curlers from the era making the hair big, big, big! I've fallen in love with his techniques and tricks but cant seem to find much information on him, he has books that have all the instructions etc (which I'd really love to own) But again, I cant seem to find them anywhere. If any of you find more information on either him or the books, i'd really love to know. This guy is really awesome.
